R840 Platform Specifications
The following describes platform capabilities, not a fixed stock configuration. Installed components are itemised in the quotation.
- Form factor: 2U rack server, not 4U.
- Processor: Up to four supported Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Dell’s 2nd Generation configuration supports up to 28 cores per processor. Exact CPU model and installed socket count as quoted.
- Memory: 48 DDR4 DIMM slots; supported RDIMM or LRDIMM configurations up to 6TB. Installed capacity and operating speed depend on the supported CPU and DIMM configuration.
- Storage: Chassis options include 8 or 24 front 2.5-inch drive bays. SAS, SATA and optional NVMe support depend on the backplane and controller. Optional rear drive bays require configuration checks.
- Management: iDRAC9; licence level and available remote-management functions as quoted.
- Networking: NIC model, port count, speed, optics and cables as quoted.
- GPU options: Supported configurations can accommodate up to two double-width GPUs. GPUs require compatible power, cooling and risers and are included only if explicitly listed. Dell specifies that GPU or FPGA options are not available with the optional two rear drive bays.

Compare CPU generation, installed socket count, memory population and I/O requirements for your application. A four-socket platform does not mean every quoted used unit includes four processors. Platform maximums do not describe the supplied configuration.
